Doka Poems

Doka is 31-syllable poetry expressing the Way of the Kami (His teachings) in relation to how we humans should live. Onisaburo composed over 100,000 doka poems in his lifetime.

They deal with a wide variety of subjects in great detail, such as the truths of the universe, the afterlife, or how to get along in life.

The following are three of Onisaburo's doka poems from the Aizen no Michi (Way of Aizen) anthology. We suggest that you browse through the book for a whole new inspiration.
